Eden Rae Adams

Sorry we haven’t updated in some time. It’s just hard to know what to say and sometimes it’s just hard to say anything. I wanted to share that they are putting in a Butterfly Garden in Eden’s honor at her school and the dedication is on her birthday. April 21st. The flowers in the Garden will be pink and purple. I can’t wait to see it and I promise to share pictures.

Riley is doing well. He got his hair cut last week and it so he no longer looks like a homeless yeti. He is growing up so fast and wanting to do so many things and with all that we have lost this year part of me wants to hide him in the house and never let him go and the other part wants to make sure he lives every day to the fullest. It’s a bit of a tug a war…. He did some of his Boy vs. Wild video this weekend and caught and cooked crawfish for dinner…. yuck. But he LOVED it! When the video is complete we will attach a link to it.

He is also reading a book by Bear Grylls from Man vs. Wild about his climb to Mt. Everest and I started looking at it the other day and ended up reading the whole thing and its amazing that the description he gives of life at unlivable altitudes is so similar to how I feel everyday. As though the air is so thin that my lungs cant seem to get enough and I am always fighting for more and as though nothing matters and you have to fight every minute to care about something. Everything feels like its in slow motion and movement is forced and labored. I am not sure why anyone would want to feel this way on purpose but I understand wanting to feel you are closer to heaven then anyone else on the earth. Riley said he is going to clime Mt. Everest one day and I have no doubt he can do it. I feel so lucky to have been blessed with two such amazing children.

I have yet to have good dreams about Eden and the last thing I do every night is pray for just one. I miss her so much and my mind is always consumed with her. I want so badly to see, touch, and hear her.

I received an email on Sat that was truly amazing! But only what I would expect from our amazing Eden. Please read the email below…..


Hello Lisa,
My name is Ron. I live near Reading, Pennsylvania. I was up in the mountains today, in the middle of nowhere, about 30 miles north of here. It is where I grew up. The nearest town is Summit Station. My friend Scott and I were just taking in God's beautiful creation when I noticed a ribbon with a deflated balloon and a tag on the other end tangled in some mountain laurel. I picked it up and read it. I told Scott that when I get home I would google the name to see what comes up. What came up broke my heart. I am sitting here crying for you and will be praying with my wife for your comforting when I finish this email. I watched the video on the website and read the blogs about how she touched so many lives. Now she has touched one more. I will be sharing with my fellow Christ followers tomorrow about her and her fight. Many times I have questioned God... why so much pain? His answer always... Know that I am God. He is there no matter what happens, good times and bad. If He stopped all the painful things life wouldn't be life and the joyful things would also cease. I have found from my own experience that the pain we experience carves a valley in our hearts. The more pain we experience, the deeper and wider the valley that it creates in our soul. When we get through to the other side of the pain and can allow joy back into our hearts our capacity to feel that joy has been increased, for it is that valley that is filled when the joy comes. The bigger the valley, the more joy we can receive. I pray that you have been able to experience the filling by now, and we will pray for your comforting by His Spirit.


Thank you so much Ron for tracking us down and writing! It warms my heart to know that Eden is still touching lives. I get emails everyday from people who come upon her name someway and just through pictures and our descriptions of her she becomes attached to their soul.

Just before we lost our sweet Eden, we had collectively decided to stop treating her and only try to control her pain until the end. We of course had no idea when the end would come or how bad it would be. We had seen many children suffer terribly as they lost the battle to cancer and contemplating that for Eden’s short future was excruciating and heartbreaking on top of the knowledge that when her pain was over she would be gone forever! It was an impossible choice to make as to what to wish and pray for.

Today I found a hamper of dirty clothes that had been moved to the corner of the laundry room around the time that Eden passed and in it were 5 or 6 white wash cloths that Eden had been using to control the bloody noses and the blood she was coughing up. As I sat crying and missing her I started to think of the unimaginable suffering she would have endured over the last two months, if she were still here and I knew her going so fast was a blessing.

Eden was strong and brave and loving and kind and advocated for herself like no one I have ever met and we could all learn a huge lesson from her. It’s ok to be the life of the party but always know that when it’s over you can leave with your head held high!
